IAWSS & its development of ROOTY HILL MOSQUE
The project to purchase the land at Rooty Hill NSW was initiated by a small group of Pakistani families in 1985-86. Progressively they went on to form the IAWSS - Islamic Association of Western Suburbs Sydney.
The Majority of Mosque construction and development has taken place since 2001
Today the Mosque has facilities for:
- 4000 people Capacity in total, with most construction taking place since 2001
- Largest and most modern facilities of its type in Australia
- Ladies section on second floor holds around 500 people
- Darss for children & adults with Islamic classes
- Rooms used for Islamic Events held regularly by all the Muslim community
Hotel sized kitchen
- Office and Courtyard
- Library & Adminstration office
The Mosque has now hosted:
- 4000 during Eid-ul-Fitr
- 4500 Muslims in Ijtema for 3 days in both 2005, 2007 & 2008
- 700 people stay overnight during Night of Shabeh Khadar in Ramadan
